i was wandering all innocently through john lewis today (yes i know it's pretty crap anyway, but i was getting bored) and i spotted this dress i thought was quite nice. i've been wanting a dress for about 2 years, so i looked at the price tag... it was £130. the cheapest nice thing i found in there was £55. and i think, is our economy that crap, that we have to charge so much for clothes? yes, fashion is a million pound industry, and people in that industry want it to stay that way. but really? is this much necessary?
also, some of these clothes were really disgusting, more gross than per una (which no-one under 60 should shop in but my mum still does). there was this green and orange knit jumper with bobbles on for crying out loud, and it was £70!! so not only is fashion expensive, it is disgusting and i'm glad it changes so often!
i know it sounds stupid me ranting about the ex-joys of shopping, when clearly there are more pressing issues in the world than how much crap clothes cost. it just seems a shame that people who want to buy good clothes spend a lot of time fruitlessly searching for them and once they do find a nice item, they cannot afford it. so they get it on their credit card, thinking, "it will be okay once i get paid," but then they can't pay for it because they have a mortgage etc. i blame fashion for debt problems.
i am not a shallow person, i could live without fashion and nice clothes. it just annoys me that if i do need new clothes, the only way i'm going to get them cheaply + easily is if they're gross.
anyway, i got a skirt. it's got roses on it. i'm gonna wear it black opaque tights when it's cold, skin colour tights when it's spring + bare legs when i can be arsed to shave them. it totally works through all four seasons.
notice how this post wasn't that depressing. it was about shopping. maybe not in a happy way, but it was happyish. shut up, okay?
